Clinical practice, public health, health informatics and digital health. Where the roles actually are, what hospitals and NGOs ask for, and how to build a career here rather than plan an exit. Written for doctors, dentists, optometrists, records officers and public health professionals.
Roles across Lagos, Abuja, Asaba, Warri, Ibadan and the north · Updated as new vacancies are published
Medical vacancies we have published disclosed a salary. Not one. Pay opacity is close to universal in Nigerian clinical recruitment, and it costs candidates real money.
Asaba, Lagos, Warri, Abuja, Ibadan and northern Nigeria. Unlike pharmacy roles, clinical vacancies are spread well beyond Lagos, and that is an opportunity.
The experience band most roles ask for, rising to five years or more for senior medical officer posts assisting consultants.
The vacancies archived below were published in 2023 and the application windows have closed. We have kept them visible because they document what Nigerian hospitals, clinics and health NGOs ask for, and where the roles sit. They are not open positions.

Clinical practice is one of them. The others are growing faster and compete less directly with emigration.
Medical officer roles assisting consultants, progressing through residency to specialist practice. Still the backbone of the market, with obstetrics, gynaecology and general medicine most consistently advertised.
Entry: MBBS, MDCN licence, 2 to 5 yearsResearch, stakeholder engagement and implementation with NGOs and donor-funded programmes. Where population-level impact happens, and where an MPH pays for itself.
Entry: MPH plus 3 to 5 yearsHealth data, telemedicine, clinical decision tools and AI. Nigerian health tech firms actively recruit clinicians who can bridge medicine and product, and that combination is scarce.
Entry: clinical background plus data or product skillsMedical records management, coding, health information systems and reporting. Undervalued, consistently hiring, and the foundation everything else in a hospital depends on.
Entry: BSc or HND, 2 years plusDental assistants and surgeons, optometrists, physiotherapists and laboratory scientists. Often overlooked in career planning, and frequently short-staffed outside the major cities.
Entry: relevant qualification and registrationTeaching, investigator roles and trial coordination. Africa runs under 2 percent of global clinical research, which means the field is small but the room to grow into it is large.
Entry: MBBS or MSc plus research trainingDrawn from the vacancies we have published across hospitals, clinics and health NGOs.
MBBS for physician roles, BSc or HND for records and health information, MPH for public health and programme posts.
Full MDCN registration and a current practising licence for any clinical role. Equivalent council registration for dental, optometry and allied professions.
Two years is the common floor, three to five for public health and programme roles, five or more for senior medical officer posts.
Obstetrics and gynaecology and general medicine are named most often. Documented exposure matters more than the rotation title on your certificate.
Roles sit in Asaba, Warri, Ibadan and the north as often as Lagos. Candidates willing to move face far less competition.
Increasingly expected everywhere, and essential for NGO and donor-funded posts where reporting is a condition of the funding.
Across every medical vacancy we have carried, the compensation line was absent. That is the norm in this market, and it puts candidates at a structural disadvantage: you negotiate blind while the employer negotiates informed.
Raise the range in the first conversation rather than after the final interview. Employers expect it, and leaving it until an offer is on the table weakens your position.
Call allowances, accommodation, transport, indemnity cover, study leave and locum permission often carry more value than the headline figure.
Professional associations and colleagues in similar posts are your only reliable benchmark when nothing is published. Use them before you interview.
A verbal figure is not an offer. Confirm salary, review schedule and payment date in a signed letter before you resign from anything.
