KIGALI, RWANDA. World Vision Rwanda is raising money for a school feeding kitchen in Burera District through a charity golf tournament at Kigali Golf Resort & Villas on Aug. 22, The New Times reported on Aug. 20.
School feeding model to serve eight schools in Burera
The project is costed at $500,000, about Rwf735 million, and would serve eight schools reaching approximately 8,000 children under the organisation’s Integrated School Feeding Model. Burera District was selected because it carries a high burden of stunting among children.
“Nutrition is fundamental to a child’s ability to grow, learn and thrive. When children lack adequate food, consequences extend beyond health, affecting education and future opportunities,” said Pauline Okumu, national director of World Vision Rwanda.
Okumu said delivery depends on more than one organisation. “No single organisation can address complex challenges affecting children on its own. Progress requires government leadership and community ownership,” she said.
The tournament sits under World Vision’s global ENOUGH Campaign against child hunger and malnutrition. Jacques Visagie, general manager of Kigali Golf Resort & Villas, said golf was “a powerful platform for creating connections and making positive impact beyond the golf course.”
The event runs a stroke-play format across men’s, seniors and women’s handicap categories, with proceeds directed to construction of the Burera school feeding kitchen.
Why it matters: School feeding remains one of the cheapest levers on stunting, and corporate fundraising is filling gaps left by shrinking aid budgets.
