Concerta is a once-daily extended-release version of methylphenidate, designed to smooth out ADHD symptom control across the school or work day without repeat dosing.
What Is It?
Concerta uses an OROS (osmotic release) delivery system: an outer layer releases medication quickly, while the core releases it gradually over roughly 10-12 hours, giving a steadier effect than immediate-release tablets like Ritalin.
How Does It Work?
Like all methylphenidate products, it raises dopamine and noradrenaline activity in brain regions responsible for attention and impulse control, helping to reduce ADHD symptoms through the day.

Dosage and How to Take It
One tablet taken once daily in the morning, swallowed whole with water. Never crush, chew, or split it, doing so releases the full dose at once and destroys the extended-release effect. Your doctor may adjust your dose at intervals of about a week based on response.
What If I Miss a Dose?
If you forget a morning dose and remember later in the day, contact your doctor or pharmacist before taking it, a late dose can interfere with night-time sleep.

Warnings and Precautions
As a controlled stimulant, Concerta carries a risk of misuse and should be kept secure and never shared. It is generally avoided in people with certain heart conditions, severe anxiety, glaucoma, or a history of stimulant misuse. The tablet shell is non-absorbable and may appear in the stool, this is expected and not a cause for concern.
Drug and Food Interactions
Avoid combining with other stimulants, MAOIs, or decongestant cold and flu medicines without medical advice.
Storage
Store below 25°C, protected from light and moisture, in the original blister pack. Keep out of reach of children and securely away from others.
