Nigeria’s National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control has confirmed that Deleject Disposable Needles are safe for use and meet quality requirements, the News Agency of Nigeria reported on August 14.
The clarification followed a public alert about whitish particulate matter in batch number 240605, which NAFDAC said was posted to its website in error after the matter had already been resolved.
Fraden Bitrus, NAFDAC Director of Post-Marketing Surveillance, said the agency’s investigation of the manufacturing company, HMA, did not reveal any non-conformity with Good Manufacturing Practice requirements. He said there are currently no quality, safety or regulatory issues that necessitate publication.
The agency said the regulatory review had been completed several months ago with a satisfactory outcome, and attributed the original observation to supply chain conditions rather than a manufacturing defect.
The complaint that triggered the review was lodged by Pharm. Jiyah Dadi, whose pharmacy is located on Aliyu Turaki, off Isa Kaita Road, Malali, Kaduna.
Erroneous alerts carry commercial and clinical consequences. Wholesalers typically quarantine affected batches on publication, and clinics substitute products, so a withdrawal of an alert rarely restores demand at the same pace.
