ABURA, CENTRAL REGION, GHANA — During the Fetu Afahye cultural festivities in Abura, the Telecel Ghana Foundation launched its connected health program ghana. Partnering with Cape Coast Metropolitan Hospital and the Divine Mother and Child Foundation, the initiative delivers technology-enabled health assessments and preventive screening to underserved coastal communities facing geographic isolation and facility constraints.
Community members received comprehensive multi-service screenings, including rapid diagnostic tests for malaria, hepatitis B antibody testing, typhoid screening, HIV testing with counseling, and blood glucose evaluations. Foundation Manager Rita Agyeiwaa Rockson highlighted the dual objectives of disease detection and personalized behavioral counseling to combat non-communicable and infectious diseases. Digital documentation systems log participant results to support longitudinal monitoring and facilitate referrals for follow-up facility care.
Over 360 residents of Kumasi have received free health screening at the Telecel Ghana Foundation’s HealthFest initiative held at the Bantama Market as part of the company’s Ashanti Month celebrations.
